What is Nipple Reshaping or Areola Reduction Surgery?
Reshaping the nipple and the areola— the circular, pigmented skin around the nipple —addresses congenital issues present since birth or issues that have developed as a result of developmental, hormonal or ageing factors.
Nipple Reshaping Surgery can be done in conjunction with other breast procedures. This can be discussed at your consultation with Dr Blennerhassett. The decision as to whether this is required needs a thorough and careful examination. See surgery risks below
Nipple Lift for Low Nipples
Addressing low hanging or downward-pointing nipples which can develop as the skin ages. This surgery involves repositioning the areolas at a more suitable height.
Correction of Inverted Nipples
Increasing the projection of nipples and addressing the flat appearance.
Accessory Breast Tissue and Supernumerary Nipples
Addresses the development in both women and men of extra breast tissue, nipples or pigmented areolas along the mammalian milk line which runs across the armpits, sides of the chest and abdomen. This line relates to the development of the human embryo in the womb.
Why Choose to Have Nipple Reshaping Surgery?
Nipple reshaping surgery may be suitable for you if:
|
Before opting for correction of inverted nipples, the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons suggests you keep in mind that:
- Some patients are able to improve the amount of projection of the nipple with breast augmentation (implants)
- Some patients are able to improve the amount of projection of the nipple with nipple piercings alone
- The surgery may make it impossible to breastfeed
- Surgeons generally recommend waiting until breast development, childbirth and breastfeeding have stopped before undertaking correction of inverted nipple surgery – however, if the degree of inversion is severe, breastfeeding may be impossible.
