What is Male Breast Reduction Surgery?
This procedure addresses abnormally large breast development in males - a condition known as gynaecomastia.
This can occur in one breast or both. It may result in enlarged breasts, breasts sagging (due to excessive breast tissue) and/or the areola (the dark skin surrounding the nipple) stretching. Sometimes gynaecomastia is confined to a firm/hard swelling directly behind the nipple. In other cases, there may be general increased size of the entire breast area. The different types of surgical treatment for correcting gynaecomastia fall into two main categories:
Where there is significant breast development and a large amount of excess skin involved, additional surgery may need to be done to remove excess skin. Scars are kept to a minimum, as much as possible, but if large amounts of skin are present, it may be necessary to make longer scars. The pre-operative assessment will provide more information as to what is required and the risks and side effects of this treatment. (See surgery risks below) |
Commonly used terms – male breast reduction, man boobs, moobs

Why Choose to Have Male Breast Reduction Surgery?
Males who have a degree of gynaecomastia can be reluctant to go swimming or wear tight-fitting clothing.
There are sometimes hormonal causes for the development of male breast tissue and in many cases your GP will address and/assess this with investigations, such as blood tests, prior to a referral being made to see a plastic surgeon.
In some cases, surgical intervention is necessary to remove excess breast tissue if it is not settling with time, weight loss or other hormonal interventions.
*A referral from your GP will be needed for this procedure in both medical and cosmetic cases.
If you have any questions or need any assistance with these changes, our lovely staff members are ready on standby to help out. Pls phone Tara, Domenica or Paula on 08 93816977
