What is Breast Implant Removal Surgery?
Breast implant removal surgery is the surgical removal of breast implants due to the ageing or rupture of the implant, a change in its position or for personal reasons. Other reasons for the removal of the implants are:
|
Neither saline or silicone breast implants are guaranteed to last a lifetime, so breast implants will need to be removed or replaced at some later stage in almost every breast augmentation patient.
During the breast implant removal procedure, a small incision is made, usually in the crease beneath the breast where the breast augmentation was performed.
The medical term for this procedure is breast implant explantation.
If you are having your implants removed, in most cases a capsulectomy will be performed at the same time to remove the capsule of scar tissue around the implant. This capsule will be sent to pathology to have further investigations.
Highly experienced in this procedure, Dr Lewis Blennerhassett is a skilled Perth breast augmentation surgeon and respected Specialist Plastic Surgeon and has performed cosmetic breast surgery for more than 25 years. His breast implants work is focused on being meticulous and precise, prioritising safety and standards.
His breast implant surgery is performed only in fully accredited, fully equipped Perth hospitals. His anaesthetists are skilled and highly qualified.

Why Choose to Have Breast Implant Removal Surgery?
The key reasons women seek breast implant removal with Dr Blennerhassett are:
Breast Implant Removal Surgery can be done in conjunction with a breast lift (mastopexy). If you decide not to replace the breast implants, a breast lift may help to address the skin that has been stretched from the original breast augmentation and may prevent the breast and nipple from hanging low. In some cases, this is done in the same operation, but it can also be done at a later stage if necessary.
This can be discussed at your consultation with Perth breast augmentation surgeon Dr Lewis Blennerhassett. The decision as to whether this is required needs a thorough and careful examination.

What Will My Breasts Look Like After Breast Implant Removal?
Following your breast implant removal surgery, your breasts will not look the same as before you had the original breast augmentation surgery.
This is because:
Your breast implant removal will result in a different shape of the breast profile, which may be flatter or droopier than before surgery and may have irregularities and/or indentations. Depending on how much scar tissue was produced around your implants, breast implants may have stretched the tissue and caused changes in the rib area.
This is general recovery advice for educational purposes only. Dr Blennerhassett will discuss your individual expectations, risks and recovery management with you.
